FISH TYPES

New Zealand and its offshore islands are surrounded by ocean. Over 1.2 million square nautical miles are incorporated in an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) which extends from latitudes 25 to 55 degrees South. This remote and pollution-free environment is home to a rich diversity of fish species which range from the subtropics to the subantarctic.

The commercial fishery comprises over eighty high value species.

All commercial species are subject to a scientifically based management programme administered by the New Zealand government.
